Eric Skytterholm Egan

Eric Skytterholm Egan (*1983) is a Norwegian-Irish composer, based in Hamar (Norway) and Durham (UK). He mostly writes acoustic chamber music, exploring experiential formal devices within a sound world characterised by delicate timbres, combining old material with new. He has an interest in exposing the present by reshaping facets of our musical past, challenging the expectations of the listener by offering the unexpected within familiar musical ground. His scores often focus on combining visual aesthetics with poetry and extended notational practices, reflecting the complexity of modern existence.

Eric’s music has been performed at festivals such as the Darmstädter Ferienkurse, Impuls Festival, Ultima, Musica Contemporanea Santiago, ISCM World Music Days, Nordic Music Days, Ilios, Only Connect, and Vertixe Sonora. He has been commissioned by and worked with ensembles such as the RIOT ensemble, Irish National Symphony Orchestra, Trondheim Sinfonietta, Crash Ensemble, EXAUDI, Arditti Quartet, Ensemble Adapter, Ives Ensemble, Curious Chamber Players, Telemark Chamber Orchestra, EXPOLRE ensemble, London Contemporary Orchestra Soloists, Platypus Ensemble, SISU, and Zollner/Roche Duo. Eric teaches composition at Durham University.
